A month or so into quitting my office job to pursue art fultime, I found myself in my studio painting deep into the night. The room was dark except for this piece illuminated by a lamp.  Mānoa Valley was quiet. I felt isolated with only the crickets outside to hear, and I wondered if they heard the grandpa jokes in my head. I felt content and fulfilled in my loneliness. It felt like home.
Within weeks, I adopted my first pet, Bernard who was 1.5 years old. Like my work, he kept me up late at night with his unreasonable food demands. More importantly, he kept me company as we burned the midnight oil. He would later be the muse to many artwork. He turns 16 this month.
